Sketchbook Assignment: Translating Reality
We are currently exploring
the concept translating reality through pattern. In your sketchbook, research
an artist who uses pre-existing images such as pattern, collage, ready-mades,
or objects to create images. Write a short paragraph with biographical
information about the artist and their work. Draw 2 of their pieces in your
sketchbook with value.
Things to remember while
drawing:
1.
Draw a border
around your sketches.
2.
Shade with a
full range of values (dark, medium, and light values)
Answer the following questions about the artist:
1.
Why do you
think the artist chooses to make work this way?
2.
What are some
words or feelings you think of when looking at their work?
3.
How does this
artist influence how you are approaching the pattern piece in class?
Some artists you might
consider researching:
Chuck Close
Romare Bearden
Richard Hamilton
Tadashi Kawamata
Julian Schnabel
Andy Warhol
Nathan Sawaya
Or find someone that
interests you who meets the criteria J
P.s. Before you do a sketch of a person's work, verify that it is actually theirs, and not just an image that popped up on google image search.
Happy Sketchbooking!
